Linda M. Kahn – Chair

Linda Kahn is the founder and chair of The Paul and Linda Kahn Foundation, a non-profit educational and charitable organization created to promote activities and scholarly research in the fields of history, education, the visual and musical arts and religion.

Thomas M. Coulter

Thomas M. Coulter was born in Oakland, California, attended Oakland High School and Stanford University where he graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering.  His career spanned 40 years at Coulter Steel and Forge Company until his retirement in 1999. He is married, with two grown sons. His activities include Boy Scout Troop 37, The League of Women Voters of Berkeley, Albany and Emeryville, the American Society for Metals, The California Metal Trades Association, and the Forging Industry Association. His interests include Art, (his grandfather was William A. Coulter, the Marine Artist), history and outdoor activities including skiing, sailing, hiking and cycling.

Marie Goff Clyde

Marie Goff Clyde was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts during a brief family visit there. Since her mother was born in San Francisco and promptly returned to that city with her husband and new baby, Marie considers herself a near native San Franciscan. She received an M.A. degree in English, along with a California -Community College Instructor Credential, is Certified to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (CTESOL), worked as a secretary, newsletters editor, and proofreader for a publishing house. A collection of her short stories won the Director's Special Award, Yachats Literary Festival, Oregon. She was also an actress-singer, both professional and non, performing most of the Gilbert and Sullivan mezzo roles for Lamplighters, undertaking principal roles with Interplayers, Marin Shakespeare  Company, Symphony Guild of Marin, West Bay Opera, Festival Theatre and other companies. (Incidentally, the great-grandfather of William H. Clyde, Marie's late husband, founded the Clyde Line, an East Coast steamship company.) Marie belongs to the Metropolitan Club, The English-Speaking Union, St. Francis Hospital Foundation, is a San Francisco Symphony Patron, and an honorary member of the Williams College Alumni Society. Marie volunteers at church and at a neighborhood animal shelter.

Charles Pollok Gibson

Charles Pollok Gibson is a fifth generation San Franciscan whose antecedents include two directors of the Oceanic Steamship Company and other Spreckels companies with links to the Pacific and Hawaiian trade. Charles’ great-grandfather built the St. Francis Hotel on Union Square. He has studied Classics, theology and Art History and holds an M.A. in the latter from the University of Victoria, British Columbia. Largely based in Europe for the past 20 years, he recently returned to San Francisco in 2003.

David Hull - Park Liaison to the Committee

David Hull has been Principal Librarian at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park since 1972.  His interest and initiative often support the museum at large in projects involving art, artifacts and archives.

Joan Keller

Joan Keller is a native San Franciscan and a retired librarian.  She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and served in the Department of Army Civilians for which she was stationed in Germany for about 18 months.  She was a 6th Army reference librarian about three years, then a medical librarian at Letterman Hospital, a special services librarian at Letterman for several years, then worked at the Main Post Library at the Presidio in San Francisco. She is a member of the San Francisco Civil War Roundtable, the California Heritage Council, the Book Club of California, the Westerners, a member of the Board of the Friends of the San Francisco Maritime Museum Library, the California Native Plant Society, is a Life Member of the National Audubon Society, a member of Nature Conservancy, Point Reyes Bird Observatory, Foundation for San Francisco’s Architectural Heritage, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. 

Stephen J. Potash

Steve Potash is Chairman of Potash & Company Public Relations in Alameda, which specializes in clients engaged in international business and shipping. He is a long-time collector of paintings and lithographs depicting the transitional sail-to-steam vessels of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, with roots in the California Gold Rush. He is a member of E Clampus Vitus, and a graduate of Pomona College, Claremont, CA. He can be reached at: steve@PotashCo.com

Joseph Ditler - Publicist

Joseph Ditler is creative director of Schooner or Later Promotions, a publicity house specializing in arts & culture, the entertainment industry, and the waterfront. He has helped numerous museums, authors, and artists to successfully enhance their profile and community awareness. As a writer he has written for a variety of sailing magazines around the world (since 1984), and is currently writing two books.
