Sally Large was born in Bronx New York and grew up in Manhattan’s Chesea district and in Pleasantville New York.

Upon receiving a degree in Sociology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Sally became a caseworker at the Bronx Bureau of Child Welfare and Assistant Director at the Hudson Guild Settlement House in NYC. She was a research assistant with Mary Dublin Keyserling as principle investigator.

Upon moving to the bay area in 1977, She worked with children with disabilities at The Family Service Agency. In 1983 she became  Executive Director at Friends of St. Francis Childcare Center’s, promoting a family support model that includes The Reflective Parenting Program. Sally was a research assistant, observing and coding elementary school teachers’ math teaching methods, at Stanford Research Institute. Sally has taught early childhood classes at DeAnza and Canada Community Colleges and currently facilitates the Director Seminar at the California Mentor Program through City College.

Her two Masters degrees from Antioch University are in Education and Urban Studies and Planning. She serves on San Francisco’s Childcare Planning and Advisory Council and is a founding and board member of the San Francisco Childcare Providers' Association. She has served on the San Francisco Planning and Advisory Council and The Children’s Council of SF board of Directors. She is a strong advocate for families and children on a local and state level. Her hobbies include music, photography.

She has two children and two grandchildren. She lives with her husband who is a classical guitar teacher.
